French king Francis I signs the Ordonnance de Villers-Cotterêts, which
makes French, rather than Latin, the official language of the kingdom.
1998:
Ted Kaczynski is sentenced to four life terms for the terrorist attacks
hitherto ascribed to the so-called Unabomber. Linguistic evidence played a major role in the Kaczynski case.
