1911:
During his third linguistics course at the University of Geneva,
Ferdinand de Saussure runs short of time. In a letter to M L Gautier,
Saussure complains that he has too many issues to discuss for the
limited lecture time allotted to him. He also says that he basically has
material for a textbook, only he cannot recall where the manuscript is.
His course in general linguistics was eventually published
posthumously, and was based on his students’ lecture notes.
